Self Employed Stream

The Self-Employed Persons Program targets people who intend to become self-employed in Canada permanently.

Candidate must have relevant experience in cultural activities or athletics and must be willing and able to make a significant contribution to the cultural or athletic life of Canada. This program is allows to immigrate to Canada permanently as a self-employed person.

Who are eligible for the Self Employed Stream?

  • Have at least 2 years relevant (cultural activities or athletics) work experience (can get more points if you have 3, 4, or 5 years of experience)
  • To be willing and able to be self-employed in Canada
  • Selection criteria based on Education, Age, Experience, Language abilities and adaptability
  • You and your family members must have a medical exam and get police certificates.
  • Financially able to support yourself and your family after you get to Canada

A “significant contribution” is not explicitly defined by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). IRCC has included it in the eligibility requirements to stop pointless applications that are not made in good faith. It is up to the immigration officer to interpret if the applicant truly intends to make a significant contribution. Also, significant contribution is not valid only at the national or international level.
